The current boss route

Dinoblade's full game contains 16 named boss encounters in the route used by current complete recordings and achievement mappings. Some videos call the game an “18 boss” run because they count Reaper & Shade as two bosses and count the two named Maakyuurii phases separately. This guide uses encounter count so a disputed counting method is not presented as an official total.

RegionNamed encounters
Tyrant's CanyonKira the Exile, Axe, Kasei the Tyrant
Great LakeShield, Tank, Haku, Mokusei the Titan
Darkclaw's ForestStick, Speed, Ketsuro, Dosei the Giant Claw
Red Ashe's SwampReaper & Shade, Horn, Red Ash, Akai Tsuki
Extinction's EdgeMaakyuurii, the Ice King / the Flame Reborn

The boss database records each encounter, region, achievement marker and evidence status. It replaces the old placeholder “Biome Alpha Bosses” entry without inventing move lists.

Core boss strategy

The reliable combat loop is built around Resolve, parries and Instinct Counters:

  1. Read the wind-up rather than tapping block repeatedly.
  2. Use accurate parries and controlled attacks to pressure the enemy's Resolve bar.
  3. Keep enough stamina to answer the next sequence; an empty bar removes your defensive options.
  4. Spend Resonance on Soul Arts when they create a real opening, not simply because the meter is full.
  5. Treat red-glint attacks as high-risk timing checks: they cannot be blocked normally, though the developer says they can still be parried.

These are system-level principles. This guide does not claim exact frame data, damage values or a universal build where no reproducible test exists.

Opening bosses: Kira, Axe and Kasei

Kira the Exile

Kira is the first named boss and the safest place to learn the Resolve loop. Prioritize clean parry timing over damage. The goal is to recognize the full attack rhythm and respond once, not mash inputs.

Axe

Axe's slower heavy swings make the timing readable but punish early reactions. Keep the arena in view, wait through the wind-up and avoid extending a combo after your safe punish window.

Kasei the Tyrant

Kasei closes the original demo route and serves as the first Alpha checkpoint. Save enough healing and Resonance to adapt when the encounter changes pace. Defeating an Alpha advances the route and, according to the developer, awards 3 Boss SP.

Boss SP and Alpha rewards

Jean Nguyen explained that:

  • mini-bosses award Boss SP;
  • extra Boss SP can be found while exploring;
  • each Alpha blocks the route to the next map and awards 3 Boss SP;
  • defeated bosses can become summons with their own passive effects.

Use the focused weapons and Boss SP database for the Soul Art nodes and current sword routes.

Final boss and Boss Rush

The final encounter is Maakyuurii, with the names The Ice King and The Flame Reborn used for its phases. The official July patches mention final-boss balance, hitbox cleanup and an Ice Roar hitbox adjustment. Those notes confirm the mechanic name and ongoing tuning, but they do not support copying a full move-by-move walkthrough.

Use the spoiler-safe Maakyuurii guide when you reach Extinction's Edge.

The official Steam page states that defeating the final boss unlocks Boss Rush, and Steam includes a FEEDING THE BLADE achievement for completing that mode.
